Homeschool Awards Ceremony

Amy received an award for outstanding development in
generosity, kindness and cooperation. It was such an amazing
area of growth for her and we witnessed it over and over again
in her relationships in the past year that we felt it merited
recognition.

For the evening performance, Amy's recitation included two
poems: Against Quarreling and Fighting (Issac Watts) and
Anger (Charles and Mary Lamb). Unfortunately, she did not do her
ballet dance because of a problem with the sound system.

Too bad! It would have served as a great rehearsal for Saturday.

Anger
by Charles and Mary Lamb
Anger in it's time and place
May assume a kind of grace
It must have some reason in it,
And not last beyond a minute.
If to further lengths it go,
It does into malice grow.
'Tis the difference that we see
'Twixt the serpent and the bee.
If the latter you provoke,
It inflicts a hasty stroke,
Puts you to some little pain,
But it never stings again.
Close in tufted bush or brake
Lurks the poison-swelled snake
Nursing up his cherished wrath,
In the purlieux of his path.
In the cold, or in the warm,
Mean him good, or mean him harm,
Whensoever fate may bring you,
The vile snake will always sting you.
Against Quarreling and Fighting
by Issac Watts
Let dogs delight to bark and bite,
For God hath made them so:
Let bears and lions growl and fight,
For 'tis their nature, too.
But, children you should never let
Such angry passions rise:
Your little hands were never made
To tear each others eyes.
Let love through all you actions run,
And all your words be mild;
Live like the blessed Virgin's Son,
That sweet and lovely child.
His soul was gentle as a lamb;
And as His stature grew,
He grew in favor both with man,
And God His Father too.
Now, Lord of all, He reigns above;
And from His heavenly throne
He sees what children dwell in love,
And marks them for His own.
